This is the prime XC flying zone in Venezuela and is located about 16 km SSE of the city of La Victoria, in the state Aragua, approximately 50 km SSW of Caracas and is a part of the Venezuelan coastal mountain system running east-west.
Launch is at 1300 mts. ASL facing SW. The set-up area is a grassy hilltop big enough to accommodate nearly 100 paragliders and about 20 cars, the takeoff area is an almost perfect slope that leads to a valley rich in thermal activity, this thermic activity overrides prevailing winds with a local SW breeze very good for takeoff. As you should imagine climbing is almost immediate, giving the nature of this breeze.
Flight is mainly thermal and may be flown from late December to early May, although best conditions are from February to March, in which all the international competitions are run. Prevailing winds are easterly trade winds, rarely exceeding 30 km/h on the surface. Average temperature is 24 degrees Celsius on the valley floor, and 30 degrees Celsius on the central flatlands (to which the longest xc flights are likely to lead you). Cloudbase is close to 3000 mts ASL. but in very good day could be up to 3800 mts.. Thermal lifts averages between 4 and 7 m/sec (but you may reach up to 11 m/sec lifts)
Driving from Caracas Loma Lisa can be reached in about 1 and half hours, you should take the center region highway (Autopista Regional del Centro) towards Valencia, and take La Victoria's exit (70 km), where you must bear east to the a small paved road which leads you to the town of Guacamaya, after which there is a 5 km. dirt road to the launch area.
